What have you been taught about where Heaven is?
Who goes there, and when do they go there?
What have you been taught that we will do there?
Were you taught that Heaven is a real place or just an ideal to shoot for?

Now that you have studied more on your own, what can you tell us about Heaven?
How would you describe the Holy City?  (In your own words please. Make it as real as you can.)

(Please just leave your initials, first name & last initial, or first initial & last name only,)

When are the righteous taken to heaven, when they die?

I did a Bible (KJV) search for the phrase "in that day" and found many verses that speak on things that will happen when Jesus comes back to get His people.  And it dawned on me that if all of these things are happening on one single day, including the resurrection of the just, then people do not go to heaven when they die.

1 Thess. 4:16-18 is quite plain in saying that when Jesus returns THEN the righteous will be raised:

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.
17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.
18 So encourage each other with these words.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Why is it that many preachers are teaching that the dead are already in Heaven?

And if you look at verse 15 we can see that no one is even "raptured" away before the tribulation.  We all will wait for Jesus to come, either in the grave or alive.  The dead will not be in Heaven until then.

Revelation 21:21 (NLT)  "The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass."

Have you ever wondered how large the oyster would need  to be (even how large the ocean would need to be) to create each one of these pearly gates?  I'm sure Jesus can just speak and make it out of thin air, but if He chooses to create it using an oyster, WOW!

And how about this street of transparent gold, we know that it goes to and from the throne of God and that light eminates from Him.  The Bible tells us that there is a rainbow above the throne as well.  Does that mean that colored light will follow the street, much like our light follows a fiberoptic strand?  Will we be able to even see through it?

Revelation 20:5 says that the wicked do not come back to life until the end of the 1,000 years is over.  This is how Satan is loosed out of the pit of Revelation 20.  He has been in this "bottomless" pit because he has not had anyone to tempt into sinning.  (See also Jer. 4:20; 4:23-27.)  But eventually the wicked will be judged and then God will recreate the Earth.

Can you imagine a world without sickness, pain and death?  (Revelation 21:4)  I mean, there will not even be a need for us to have eye glasses, artificial limbs, hips and knees replaced, or even false teeth!

We will get totally NEW bodies, without the deformities or scars of living on this earth.  The NLT version of 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 says:
But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! 52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. 53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.

And from what Isaiah 65:21 makes it sound as if there will not even be "9-5 jobs" like we know them today because we will even build our own homes and grow our own food.

Is God GREAT, or what?

I recall that as I was working one day years ago that there was a very pleasent odor in the air and I looked around to see where it came from.  It turned out to be from the flowers in a tree maybe 50-60 feet away.

Rev. 22 tells us about the Tree of Life and how it has 12 different kinds of fruit.  I wonder what their flowers will look like?  And what about their odor?  Do you suppose that all 12 of those flowers will put off such an awesome prefume that we will be able to smell it miles away?

Rev. 22: 1,2 (NLT)
"Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations."

These 2 verses also tell us that this main street is a divided "boulevard" with plants and a river in the middle.  And that we will not only eat the fruit of the tree but also the leaves (kind of like we do for our medicines maybe, or how we sometimes use Bay leaves and other plant leaves for cooking and in salads).

And evidently this tree is HUGE!  The Bible talks about it as being on both sides of the river.  It sounds as if it is joined at the top over the river.  (It is my guess that this river is not a small stream either as it will be watering "nations".)
