The Judgment Timeline

(To understand what is happening here you may need to study the Gospel Timeline also.)

"Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come.  Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water."

Revelation 14:6

Judgment Begins

Some people call this first part of the Judgment "The Investigative Judgment".  According to the prophecy of Daniel 8, the 2,300 day/year prophecy ended in 1844.  Daniel 8:14 says, “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” The cleansing of the earthly sanctuary in the days of Moses was a symbol of what began in our year of 1844 and is going on right now in Heaven.  Just as you and I choose what to keep and what to discard when we clean, God is choosing between what is good and what is bad, what is righteous and what is evil, what He’s going to keep and what He is going to destroy.

God is both a merciful God and a just God.  The Bible says that the “wages of sin is death”, so God allowed His Son Jesus to come and pay our “wage” for us.  When Jesus died on the Cross that requirement of death by the Law was paid, but if we wish we can choose to pay this debt ourselves.

God’s judgment of each person comes down to one question.  Has this person accepted the payment for his sins through the blood of My Son, Jesus?
  • If YES, then the debt is paid and God gives that person eternal life because of what Jesus did for them.
  • If NO, then that person ends up paying the debt himself and must die, forever.

The Close of Probation

At the end of the Investigative Judgment God will pronounce “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” (Rev. 22:11)    God will have judged what is clean and acceptable.  Some people call this the Close of Probation because there will be no more time for change, but whatever you choose to call it everyone will have made up their minds to either accept the payment of Jesus for their sins or to pay their own debt.

The Second Coming

Then Jesus will come the 2nd time and take His people to Heaven.  (All the wicked will be killed by the brightness of His coming according to the Bible, but at this point they are not totally destroyed by Hell Fire according to Jeremiah 4:27.  According to the Bible they just “sleep” until the 2nd Resurrection which comes at the end of the 1,000 years.  Revelation 20:5.)

The First Resurrection

When Jesus comes for His people at His Second Coming He will resurrect all those who have died trusting in Him.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 says, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first"

The Millennium

For 1,000 years the wicked will be dead (Jeremiah 4:25) and the righteous will be in Heaven.  The righteous will be given the opportunity to look over the books of Heaven and to see for themselves that God has been just and fair in all things.

God does not want any questions left unanswered when He does His “strange act” and so everyone will have ample time to judge for themselves.  God never makes mistakes of course but this is the only way that the entire universe will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He has done everything He could to save those who have not chosen to accept His gift of eternal life through the blood of His Son, Jesus.  God is so fair and holy that He allows us, and even WANTS us, to make absolutely sure that what He is about to do is the ONLY right thing He can do.  Only after everyone has judged for themselves that God is being perfectly fair and just will this whole sin-thing come to an end.  (Click here for more information on this topic.)

Then the Holy City comes down to this earth.  Revelation 21:1-4 says, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

The Second Resurrection

Rev. 20:5 says, “The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended."  At the end of the 1,000 years all the wicked that have ever lived will be raised to life and so of course Satan will no longer be in his pit.

The Sentencing of the Wicked

Revelation 20:7, 8 says, “When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves.  But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.”

Sin and sinners will be no more.  Malachi 4:1 says, "Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire," says the LORD Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them.”

The Bible says that even Lucifer (aka: Satan, the Devil, the Serpent) will be totally burned up eventually.  Speaking of Lucifer, Ezekiel 28:18, 19 says, “I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.”

The Reward of the Righteous

Revelation 21:1-5 says, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful."
